Diet Solution Program Results – One Belt Notch

START BURNING FAT NOW

Hi all!

So wanted to drop a quick post in about how the diet solution program has been going for me.

Since I embarked on this approach to eating healthier about 2 months ago, I – like most people- have found that so far I am about 70% compliant to the overall program. I follow the program and meal plans fairly well, but 1-2 days a week I do indulge in some favorite non-recommended foods like pizza and potato chips [I am a huge potato chip nut].

However, even with these digressions, I am VERY happy to reveal that I have lost 5 pounds, and also gone down a notch in my belt – which honestly means more to me than what the scale reports!

I am not getting a bit worried that I will need to budget for clothes that are in the 32-34in waist size versus my current wardrobe which is all 36in waists!

I think the one call out here is that nobody is perfect. Isabel has given me the best program in terms of my lifestyle, the science and direction behind losing weight safely, and I’ve largely been faithful. However, because my eating habits are still 1000% better than they were before I started the program, I am obtaining benefits from it. Real, tangible, belt tightening benefits!

I plan on starting on an exercise program soon [within the next 1-2 months], but wanted to ensure I was on track with feeding my body with what it needs ahead of putting additional unexpected stress on it!

I highly encourage you to learn more about the Diet Solution Program – links are elsewhere on my site, but I think it is one of the best programs out there – certainly I am already seeing benefits from it even when not 100% compliant.

I also really appreciate the weekly emails with more tips, recipes, and knowledge around the proper diet and approach to feeding my body what it needs.

Good luck on your journey, and I hope you are also seeing positive results – and not holding yourself to a gold standard completely!

The Dark Side of Eating Healthy Foods

START BURNING FAT NOW

What a title right? Are you referring to bad things that may happen if you focus on healthy food options?

Well, I want to share another step in my journey towards losing my body fat – a step that happened today and did NOT leave me a happy camper for the remainder of the day.

I’ve been doing fairly well [not perfect] at trying to follow the nutritionist created Diet Solution Program. I’d say I’m about 80% compliant now in any given week – focusing more on lean meat, a lot more fruits and vegetables, buying free range, organic fed chickens as well as eggs, seeking out and trying to buy grass fed beef – all good things.

However, let me tell you how things can go wrong if you think you know the science behind the diet and stray from some of the recommended meal plans and portions throughout the day.

So spinach is on the diet plan [as you would expect] as an excellent addition to my weekly diet. I buy organic whenever possible [sometimes what they have available at Whole Foods or Sprouts looks almost spoiled, so on those weeks I may buy the normal pesticide laden kind unfortunately.

This week before work I popped into a Safeway store and stocked up on some items for my lunches at work - I tend to eat at my desk every day as meetings invariably leave no time to leave the office. Sound familiar? So right before work on Tuesday morning I bought a bag of organic red apples, a good size package of organic spinach [supposedly prewashed and all of that good stuff], almonds, and a bag of those little peeled baby organic carrots.

Everything went well Wednesday – I had a little meat from dinner the prior night, 2 apples, a banana, and some almonds for lunch. I felt full, and it was a healthy meal.

Fast forward to Wednesday – I was on a conference call all through lunch, so right before the call started I grabbed the “plastic bin” of spinach and the carrots from the cafe fridge and jumped on my call. During the call I managed to eat probably 3/4 of the entire spinach container, about 15 baby carrots, as well as a few almonds.

After the call ended I looked at how much spinach I had eaten – I felt full but not like I had eaten too much. However, apparently there were like 6 services of spinach in this container, and I think I ate 5 of them. At this point I’m feeling like “wow – my healthy eating options are working great, and I just ate more of a really good thing. My body must be loving me at this point”.

WRONG.

Why? Well, about 2 hours after eating I started to balloon out like something out of Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory – apparently spinach can create intestinal gas, and too much spinach can, well, produce too much gas. From about 3pm until I went to bed tonight I’ve had major gas cramps, horrible gas, and my wife told me I looked like I was expecting twins.

I was MISERABLE! And all from doing a good thing!

The problem is I assumed the rule “everything in moderation” didn’t apply to good things like organic spinach. Boy was I wrong.

So lesson learned. The portions and allocations on the Diet Solution Program are there for a reason! Isabel knows from her training, certifications, and extensive experience in the field of nutrition what you should be eating – and now much of each item at a time. While she doesn’t come out and mention what can go wrong [like blowing up like a balloon], I’m sure that was one of many factors that she incorporated into her approach around meal components and relative portions!

I learned my lesson. Not sure I will have to worry about getting distracted on a future lunch and eat 10 organic apples – who knows what that side effect would be!

So – morale of the story: Trust the nutritionist, try not to stray too far from the program as designed, and don’t eat too much spinach in one sitting

My guess is also that people following and trusting weight watchers would have told me I didn’t have enough points for all of that Spinach!

As always, best of luck on your weight loss and eating healthier [to burn body fat of course] journey!

The Diet Solution as a Best Way to Burn Body Fat

START BURNING FAT NOW

Ok -I finally had a chance to read through the entire 100 page Diet Solution Manual – wow. On my journey to burn my body fat fast in a healthy way, I never expected to find such a wealth of credible information related to diet. Furthermore, it is useful information – something you can use to start making incremental changes in your lifestyle to achieve your goals of losing body fat, losing weight, and generally becoming the person you want to be.

In my article on fat loss diet plans, I went through my thinking on some critical components of choosing a diet, and provided my opinion on why so many diets fail, and end up depressing people versus helping them.

Here I want to share a brief summary of what I consider the highlights of the full Diet Solution Program Manual, without of course replicating the program here [and getting in trouble with Isabel De Los Rios!].

Too many diet programs throw questionable information at you, may require purchasing hundreds of dollars in special foods, group “therapy” sessions, or have you dive right into a diet that feels like starvation.

Not this program. A section that really resonated with me was the very beginning of this manual – It starts with a focus on setting your MIND up for success – where the mind goes, the body follows. Isabel does a great job of explaining the state of mind you must be in, and re-iterates tried and true principles around negative thinking, personal commitment, and setting realistic goals that include the opportunity for positive affirmations,

I am a strong believer that your mind, especially subconsciously, controls every aspect of your body – including how effectively you process foods as well as storing and burning fat.

Kudos to this program for starting with this aspect – if your mind is not in the right place, it won’t matter how hard you try to follow a fat loss diet plan – it won’t work. You need to be reminder of why this is important to your goals of cutting your body fat percentage.

As part of this overall first section, the Diet Solution Program then provides what I consider foundational information on metabolism and diet basics – if you don’t understand this material you won’t get the full benefit of the plan. I’m personally sick of programs that simply lay out a series of steps to follow without any context or evident or rationale behind why those steps are the best way to burn body fat. Often without this basic understanding of the underlying principles, your mind is not bought in, and eventually you cease to follow any aspect of the diet. If you don’t understand, and agree, with these principles, then you shouldn’t try and follow the diet. You need complete alignment of your mind and body.

This fat burning foundational knowledge continues with further information on metabolism types, information on how to understand what type of metabolism you have, then moves into the basic facts around Calories. You hear the term calories multiple times a day, and many fat reducing diets focus solely on superficial calorie “facts” – however, Isabel De Los Rios goes further. She provides information around the latest research showing that “not all calories are created equal”. Probably anyone with a belly like mine [definitely not six pack abs] already knows this.

In fact, the section comparing the same calorie intake each day and the dramatically different outcomes was eye opening – the information in this section alone reset many of my preconceptions around calories and fat / weight loss, and by itself provided me with information I can use regardless of where I am when choosing foods to eat.

What? I just can’t starve myself on low calorie foods, drink gallons of green tea, and get the fat burning results I crave?

Uh, doubtful from my perspective. This section of the manual kicks off a hugely valuable set of chapters covering what you need to know about “conventional” foods, and why organic should be part of any healthy lifestyle, especially if you are shooting for fast body fat reduction.

I confess we can’t afford to buy everything organic. I focus on thin-skinned fruits and vegetables where either I’m eating the skin [like apples], or the surface is thin enough that there is a good chance pesticides leaked through. I don’t however, buy organic meats, although I try and get nitrate and nitrite free lunch meats, bacon, etc. whenever I can find it on sale.

I also buy nest free, vegetarian fed chicken eggs. After reading fast food nation and a few other books on the American poultry industry, I shudder to think what I was putting in my body all those years. And certainly the moral “guilt” over how some chicken production houses run can be very compelling.

I’ll continue this post in a few days on some of the other key elements of this incredible fat loss diet plan and why I think it will work for me, and why I think you need to investigate it further if you are serious about losing body fat fast, in a healthy way that is sustainable over time.
